Well, well, here we are again after months of non-news. Months however filled with very exciting research, WATCH THIS SPACE!
We have just heard that OSMers (Open Source Mappers) have built a rather nice website using OSM and Government Open Data for the postcode district around Nottingham.
At the moment it includes about 4 historical layers: blue plaques, listed buildings, war memorials, and dead pubs. It also supports a number of National Library of Scotland historical map layers.
There is a plan to include earlier historical maps if permissions can be obtained.
This fits into an overall concept of the ‘Open Historical Map’ as a global project. This recent blog post provides some context to the idea.
