Sunday 19th June ‘La Commune – Paris 1871’

Screening of the amazing film experiment about the short lived Paris Commune (French with English subtitles). We will show an edited 3-hour version (of the six-hour long film!) in two parts, interrupted by afternoon tea.

And here it is! Our new pamphlet (pdf) looking into the story behind the tale of Nottingham’s Great Cheese Riot.

In this booklet, local events are contextualised with other Food Riots of autumn 1766, identifiying and debating patterns of the rioters’ direct action.

We looked how four 20th century May Days, each a quarter of a century apart (1911, 1936, 1961, 1986) were depicted in the local mainstream press, reflecting the changing face of May Day, the strength of the Labour Movement and changing international affairs.
